For players: joining, help and privacy
Have a game code?
- Get the version that supports Studio games from your organizer. The store edition currently offers demo play.
- Open My games, choose Enter a game code and type the six-character code from the organizer.
- Read the rules and follow the task shown in the game. The map shows where to go.
Your data
Markerra is an app for outdoor games. You walk, you scan points, you build up progress, you finish the game. This page explains in plain words what happens to your data. It is written for you, not for a lawyer. It takes a few minutes to read.
The whole thing in five sentences
- To run the game we need your account, your progress, and a check that you are standing at the point.
- The person who built the game gets none of your personal data from us. One exception: a game leaderboard, if you choose to appear on it.
- Location turns on only when you start a scan or open the map — never in the background.
- There are no ads, we do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell your data.
- You can delete your account from the app at any time, without giving a reason.
Who looks after your data
Your data is handled by the company that makes Markerra. It decides how the app works and what happens to the data. Its full name, address, and registration numbers are in the Privacy Policy.
If you want to ask about anything, write to kontakt@markerra.app. You are writing to the people who build this app.
What we know about you
We collect only what the game cannot work without:
- Your account. You sign in with Google, or with Apple on iPhone. From there we get your account number, your e-mail address, and your profile name.
- Your progress. Which point you collected, at what time, and what kind of phone you used.
- The zone check. At the moment of a scan your phone tells us where it is and how precisely it knows that.
- A record that you accepted the rules. We store which version of the rules you accepted, and when.
- The finale. A completion confirmation and finale code after meeting the game's requirements. In a search area, collecting some of its points may be enough.
We ask for your date of birth once, at sign-in, but we do not collect it. Your phone checks it: it works out if you are 18. We store it nowhere — not on the phone, not with us. We never ask for your home address, your phone number, or card details. Players pay nothing at all — the person who built the game pays for publishing it.
What the person who built the game can see
Games are built by an organizer: a teacher, a company, a museum, or another person using Markerra Studio. They set the points, tasks and completion requirements. If they offer a reward or additional instructions, they provide them separately; the app shows a standard completion screen and finale code.
The organizer gets none of your personal data from us. They cannot see your name, your e-mail, or your account number. They cannot see when you scanned or where you were. They cannot see your list of points. They cannot message you through the app.
There is one exception: the game leaderboard. The organizer can turn it on. After you finish, you can choose a nickname and appear on the list. Then players who finished that game and the organizer see your nickname, place and time. They do not see your name or e-mail. You can leave the list at any time.
If they ever get statistics about their game, those are group totals only — large enough that no single person can be picked out of them. There is more about this in the Privacy Policy and in the Participation rules for Markerra Studio games.
One caveat: this covers the app. The organizer may collect something separately, next to the app — a paper sign-up list, for instance. That is on them, not on us.
Why you need my location
To show your position on the map and help you reach your destination. If a point requires you to be there, location is also used to check that you are close enough.
- Your phone is asked for a location only when you press scan or open the map.
- The app does not track you in the background and does not check where you are just because it is running.
- The check takes a moment. Afterwards only the result stays: counted or not counted.
- Your progress record does not hold the spot you were standing on. It holds the centre of the point's zone and a rounded distance, in steps of 50 metres.
If you turn location off, or the GPS signal is too weak, a scan may not count. That is the only consequence — nobody punishes you for it.
Is anyone watching me or showing me ads
No. Markerra has no ads. We do not build a profile of you. We do not guess what you like. We do not hand you over to any ad network. We do not sell data.
Separately, there is optional usage analytics inside the app. Those are plain counters: how many times the map was opened, how many times the scanner. You switch them on yourself with a separate toggle, and you can switch them off whenever you want. The game works exactly the same without them.
How old you have to be
- 18 and over — you create an account and play. That is the only threshold in Markerra.
- Under 18 — you cannot play. A parent's or guardian's agreement does not help here: there is no such path.
The app asks for your date of birth once — at sign-in. Your phone checks it: it works out if you are 18. So we do not store your date of birth — not on the phone, not on our server. Only the result stays: the age you need, and that you are that old. For your next game you do not enter the date again. The app then shows: “Age already confirmed.” If this cannot be checked, for example without internet, the app asks for the date again. Give the true date: it is the only thing we can go by.
Until 27 August 2026 it was different: you played on your own from 16, and from 13 with a parent's or guardian's agreement. Since 28 August 2026 there is one threshold — 18.
What to tell a parent or guardian
You can show them this page, or repeat these sentences:
- It is an outdoor game: I walk around and scan QR codes or NFC tags.
- I sign in with a Google account, or with Apple on iPhone. I give no address, no phone number, no card details.
- Location helps on the map and when completing points that require me to be there. The app does not track me in the background.
- The person who built the game does not get my data. One exception: a game leaderboard, if I choose to appear on it.
- I can delete the account from the app whenever I want.
- The game is for people aged 18 and over, and that is how old I am.
- I give a date of birth only so the phone can check my age. Nobody stores it.
A parent or guardian can write to us at kontakt@markerra.app. They can ask what we hold and ask us to delete the account. Before we act on such a request we may ask for extra confirmation. Otherwise a stranger could delete your account by claiming to be a guardian.
How to delete your account
The simplest way is from the app. In any game or the demo, tap “Help” in the bottom bar, then “Account and settings” and “Delete account”. You do not have to ask anyone or give a reason. The Delete account page lists every step, including what to do if the app is no longer on your phone.
Deleting removes your account and what is attached to it: progress, scan attempts, the finale, and analytics events. One small thing stays: a record turned into an unreadable string of characters, saying that this game's finale has already been claimed. It is there so nobody can claim it several times by deleting and recreating an account. That record cannot be traced back to you.
What you can ask of us
- ask what data we hold about you, and get a copy of it;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
- ask us to delete your data;
- tell us you object to some processing and ask us to stop it;
- complain about us to the President of the Personal Data Protection Office in Poland, if you think we are getting something wrong.
A message to kontakt@markerra.app is enough. We reply as fast as we can, and as a rule within one month.
Help and reports
How to report a game that is not right
Games are built by organizers, not by us. We do not review their content before it reaches the app. If you see something in a game that should not be there, write to kontakt@markerra.app. Anyone can report — including someone who does not play that game.
Report especially if a game:
- leads somewhere dangerous or somewhere you are not allowed to go;
- insults, frightens or harasses someone;
- contains adult content;
- gives someone's name, address, phone number or photo without their permission;
- misleads about who runs it or what you can win;
- is being used to collect data about players.
Tell us which game (its name or join code), what exactly is wrong and where you saw it. You do not need to know the law or prove anything.
What happens next: we confirm your report arrived and handle it without undue delay. A person reads it — no automated system decides. The only exception is nicknames on a game leaderboard (described below). If you give us your address, we will tell you what we decided. We can suspend a game or remove individual content from it. The person who built the game then receives a statement of reasons and may appeal.
If something threatens anyone's health or life, call 112 first. Tell us afterwards.
How to report a nickname on a leaderboard
In a game with a leaderboard you can report another player's nickname. Do it if the nickname is rude, shows personal data or does not belong in a game. After you finish the game, choose “Report nickname” next to that entry and pick a reason. You can report each nickname once. You can also hide an entry just for yourself with “Hide for me”.
What happens next: three reports from different players hide the nickname automatically. This is the only exception to the rule that a person handles reports. A person reviews the entries hidden this way and can bring them back.
Was your nickname hidden? The app shows the reason. If you think it is a mistake, write to kontakt@markerra.app. A person reads your appeal. Until it is sorted out, you can choose a different nickname.
Something not working in the game?
If a scan was refused unfairly, or the finale did not unlock — write to kontakt@markerra.app. A human reads those reports.
This is the short version
This page is written in plain language and deliberately leaves things out. It is not legal advice and not a formal legal opinion. The full information — who receives the data, on what legal basis we process it, and how long we keep it — is in the Privacy Policy. If anything here reads differently from that document, the Privacy Policy is the one that counts.
