Participation rules for Markerra Studio games
Version studio-2026-10-10-v11, effective 10 October 2026. This document applies to games prepared and published by organizers in the Markerra Studio panel. It does not apply to the Markerra technical demo, which has separate rules.
The whole thing in six sentences
- The game is free — you never pay to take part and you never give card details.
- An organizer built the game, so ask them about the tasks, the route and the finale; we make the app.
- Studio games are for adults — you must be 18 or older and play on your own account.
- You complete a point by scanning a QR code, tapping an NFC tag, typing a code word or reaching the marked place; each point counts once and nothing here is random.
- Location turns on only when you scan or open the map, never in the background, and the organizer sees your data only if you show a nickname on a leaderboard.
- Go only where it is safe and where you are allowed to be; if something feels wrong, stop the game and write to kontakt@markerra.app.
This is a summary, so you know what you are agreeing to. The full rules are below and they are the ones that apply — the summary changes nothing in them.
Who is who
The organizer of this game is the person or entity shown in the app next to the game. The organizer built the route, the tasks and the finale; you can see their name and e-mail on the game screen, and they are the right address for questions and complaints about the content, the rules and the finale. Markerra provides and operates the app: we do not build the game, we do not approve its content before publication, and we are not responsible for the finale or any reward.
App provider
The Markerra app is provided and operated by Przemysław Wiśniewski Digital, NIP: 5243019522, REGON: 529876286, ul. Turmoncka 22/1103, 03-254 Warsaw, Poland, entered in CEIDG. Matters concerning the app itself: kontakt@markerra.app.
Participation
- taking part is free and requires no purchase;
- you need a Markerra app account (sign in with Google, or with Apple on iPhone) and an Android or iOS phone;
- you receive the join code from the organizer;
- you can stop at any time — by leaving the game in the app or deleting your account.
Age
- you take part in Markerra Studio games if you are 18 or older, and you play on your own account;
- you confirm your age in the app with your date of birth; the app checks it on your phone and does not store it — neither on the phone nor on the server;
- of your age data we store, together with your acceptance of these rules, only the confirmation that you are 18 or older. If your account already has such a confirmation from an earlier acceptance, the app does not ask for your date of birth again. If it cannot check that confirmation (for example without an internet connection), it may ask for the date again — and does not store it either;
- if you are under 18 you cannot take part in a Studio game — not even with a parent's or legal guardian's agreement. There is no path that such agreement opens.
How you complete points
You complete a point by scanning a QR code, tapping an NFC tag, typing a code word, or reaching the marked place. The app checks that a point has not been completed before and, for reach-the-spot points, that you are genuinely there. The same point counts only once. Completion is deterministic: there is no draw or element of chance. In a game with a leaderboard you complete every point, including QR codes and NFC tags, on site only.
Location
The app uses your location only at the moment of completing a point or using the map — to check that you are in the right place. The app does not track your location in the background.
Finale
Once you meet the completion requirements set by the organizer, the app shows a standard completion screen and a finale code. The number of required points depends on the game's rules; in a search area, collecting some of its points may be enough. If the organizer offers a reward or additional instructions, they provide them to participants separately and are responsible for their content, value and fulfilment. Markerra does not guarantee anything the organizer promises. If the organizer turned on a leaderboard, this screen also shows your time and the list (see “Leaderboard”).
Leaderboard (if the organizer turned it on)
The organizer can turn on a leaderboard in a game. After you finish the game, you then see your time and the list of players who chose to appear on it. The organizer sets when we start counting your time: from joining the game (the clock starts when, after the leaderboard notice, you tap “Join and start”) or from the first point you complete. The end is the last required point. We measure the time with our server's clock; starting the game over does not reset the time, and after you finish it does not change your result. In a game with a leaderboard you complete every point on site.
You are on the list only if you enter a nickname yourself and press “Show me on the list”. Without that, only you can see your result. The players who finished this game and the organizer see the list: nickname, place and time. They do not see your name, your e-mail address or how you played. The organizer does not see who chose not to appear on the list. You choose a nickname in each game separately, and the app does not remember it.
A nickname must not contain your full name, contact details, or offensive or unlawful content. Other players can report it. After three reports we hide it automatically and you can choose another one. We can also hide a nickname or a result ourselves, and the organizer can hide an entry on their game's list. A result in which getting from one point to the next was faster than the distance allows is automatically kept off the list. If you think this is a mistake, write to kontakt@markerra.app — a person will review it.
You can withdraw your consent at any time with the “Remove me from the list” button; the entry disappears from the list at once. Markerra does not award prizes for a place on the list. If the organizer announces results or gives prizes, they do so under their own rules and responsibility — ask the organizer for details.
The list is visible until the game's current publication period ends. We delete your entry no later than 120 days after you first complete a point, and earlier if you delete your account or the organizer turns off the leaderboard or deletes the game. We are responsible for the leaderboard together with the organizer (Article 26 GDPR); you can turn to us with any matter.
Safety
Play only in safe, publicly accessible places. Do not enter closed areas, private property without permission, or dangerous places. Stay careful near roads. The organizer chose the point locations and is responsible for that choice; if a point leads to a place that seems unsafe or inaccessible — stop and report it to the organizer and to us.
Your data
- Markerra is the controller of the data processed in the app (your account, game progress, acceptance of these rules) — details in the Privacy Notice;
- the organizer does not receive your personal data from the app — the exception is a leaderboard: if you choose to appear on the list, the organizer sees your nickname, place and time; if the organizer collects data outside the app (for example a list of sign-ups for an event), they do so on their own responsibility as a separate controller;
- the full text of these rules is available in the app offline; after acceptance we keep a copy you can return to.
Reporting abuse
If a game's content breaks the law or these rules (for example it leads to a dangerous place, offends, or misleads), report it to kontakt@markerra.app with the game's name or code and the reason. We may suspend the publication of such a game.
You can report an inappropriate leaderboard nickname with the “Report nickname” button next to the entry. If we hide your nickname or result, we tell you in the app, with the reason.
Complaints
Complaints about the app itself: kontakt@markerra.app — we reply within 14 days. Complaints about a game's content, rules and finale: to the organizer, at the address shown next to the game.
End of the game
A game stops being available when the organizer unpublishes it or when its publication period ends. Your progress in that game may then stop being visible. These rules do not limit your rights under mandatory provisions of law.
Version history
Version studio-2026-10-10-v11 changes in the “Leaderboard” card only the sentence about time: the organizer sets whether we start counting your time from joining the game (after you confirm with the “Join and start” button) or from the first point you complete. Previous v10 wording, retained for history: “We measure the time with our server's clock: from the first to the last point you complete. Starting the game over does not reset the time, and after you finish it does not change your result.” Previous version: studio-2026-10-09-v10 of 9 October 2026.
Version studio-2026-10-09-v10 adds a leaderboard that the organizer can turn on in a game: the “Leaderboard” card, an exception to the sentence saying the organizer does not receive your personal data (it applies only to the leaderboard list, and only if you choose to appear on it), a sentence about completing every point on site in a game with a leaderboard, and a description of how nicknames are reported. Previous v9 wording, retained for history: “Location turns on only at the moment of a scan or when you open the map — never in the background — and the organizer gets none of your personal data from us.”; “Completion is deterministic: there is no draw, ranking, or element of chance.”; “the organizer does not receive your personal data from the app; if the organizer collects data outside the app (for example a list of sign-ups for an event), they do so on their own responsibility as a separate controller”. Previous version: studio-2026-10-08-v9 of 8 October 2026.
Version studio-2026-10-08-v9 changes only how age confirmation is described: you enter your date of birth in the app, and if your account already has a confirmation that you are 18 or older from an earlier acceptance, the app does not ask for it again (if it cannot check that confirmation, for example without an internet connection, it may ask for the date again); of your age data we store only that confirmation. The age floor of 18 and the rule that we do not store your date of birth did not change. Previous v8 wording, retained for history: “you enter your date of birth in the app before you accept these rules; the app checks it on your phone and does not store it — neither on the phone nor on the server”. Previous version: studio-2026-09-21-v8 of 21 September 2026.
Version studio-2026-09-21-v8 clarifies the finale: completion depends on the game requirements, and the app shows a standard completion screen and finale code. Previous v7 wording, retained for history: “After collecting all points you will see a finale screen with content prepared by the organizer (for example congratulations, a code, or collection instructions). The organizer alone is responsible for the finale's content, value and delivery. Markerra does not guarantee anything the organizer promises.”
Version studio-2026-09-06-v7 changes only the version history and the English wording: the previous entry named itself as the previous version (instead of studio-2026-08-29-v5), and the English text called a point's secret a “password” instead of a “code word” — the term the app and the Terms use. The web page of the document gained the DSA contact point in its footer. No rule changed its meaning. Previous version: studio-2026-09-04-v6 of 4 September 2026.
Version studio-2026-09-04-v6 changed wording only: the label above the title says “participation rules” instead of “participant rules”, and the English meta description says “field games” instead of “scavenger hunts” — no rule changed its meaning. Previous version: studio-2026-08-29-v5 of 29 August 2026.
